Hebrew 11:1 Now faith is [the] assurance [or, substance]of [things] being hoped for [or, being confidently expected], [the]confident assurance [or, proof]of things not seen.

However in reference to faith, Jesus (likened faith) unto a mustard seed. I used to think it is dealing with the size of the mustard seed and thus with the size of our faith.

Luke 17:5-6 And the apostles said to the Lord, "Add to us [or, Increase our] faith!" But the Lord said, "If you* have faith like a grain of mustard [or, mustard seed], you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,' and it would [have] obeyed you.

But when I took a mustard seed into my hands, the size came to mind but what struck me the most, is not the size but the potential that is within that small seed. That seed as any other seed have something on the inside, which said that in the right condition it will produce a tree, or a flower, or whatever potential is laid within. The DNA of that seed is kept within, and it is the DNA that says that that seed have the potential to become what it is supposed to be, and you and I cannot alter that. If we plant a seed of a specific fruit, for example a pomegranate, that seed will produce a pomegranate tree that will bear pomegranates as fruit, it will not, nor can it, produce any other tree and bear any other fruit.
Jesus came in order to remove the corruptible seed within man and replace it with the incorruptible seed and therefore He made a statement about and over us, He said that we will be able to do what He did and even more because He goes to the Father. When Jesus spoke these words He did not look at the potential of men but He looked at the incorruptible seed, the coming of the Holy Spirit (the DNA), within the recreated man in Christ Jesus. (In His likeness) When the Pharisees said that Jesus performs the miracle through Beelzebub, as a power within, and He replied that if you blaspheme the Holy Spirit you will not be forgiven. In saying that, He acknowledged that the miracles performed where due to the potential within, the Holy Spirit.

As we have been recreated in Christ Jesus, we also received the same Holy Spirit, the incorruptible seed of God’s promise, waiting within us to be released to work the work of God through us. All we need is to be placed in the right condition like a seed so to germinate and bear fruit. The question then is no more about potential, but it is more a question of what is the right condition for germination.

When the disciples asked Jesus about the sin of a blind man, Jesus replied and said that the reason for his blindness is not due to sin but to bring glory unto God. In like manner Jesus saw the potential to glorify God through Lazarus death. Peter and John found themselves at a well prepared garden (The Beautiful gate), the soil perfectly prepared to bring glory unto God. When they passed the man crippled from birth, the Holy Spirit must have prompted them, saying this is it, sow the seed that God implanted within you and let it bear fruit to the glory of God.

If we look at the definition of faith again in context of the seed we see it is the very substance within that is the confident assurance of a product not yet seen. Again it is not the outer part that determines the outcome it is the substance within. Likewise faith should not be based upon the knowledge of the word but on the knowledge of Him that is within, the confidence in Him and His ability and not in your own inability.

Hebrew 11:6 But without faith [it is]impossible to please [Him], for it is necessary [for] the one approaching God to believe that He is and [that] He becomes a rewarded to the ones diligently seeking Him.

We should walk as if we carry a bag of seeds that will bear precious fruit, but we must acknowledge that it will only bear fruit if it is sown in well prepared soil, soil that God in His wisdom prepared to bring glory unto Him. When the Holy Spirit shows us such a well prepared place we must sow with an expectancy that fruit will be produced to the glory of His mighty name.

Remember the seed that is within us as children of God in Jesus Christ, is filled with all the required DNA – the same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead, is working within us.
