Although Ascension Day is no longer recognized as a holiday, that doesn't make the day any less important. I am of the opinion that the enemy wants to remove these affirmations of faith days from the minds of man for fear of the truth of the Word. He will do anything to withhold the truth of the Word from people

Ascension day is one of those days that builds our faith and also refocuses us on the victory Christ has achieved for each of us. I want to remind you of what Jesus said to the disciples in John 16:4-10 "But these things I have said to you, that when the hour comes, you may remember that I have told you. But I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I will go to him who sent me, and none of you will ask me, 'Where are you going?' But because I told you this, grief filled your hearts. But I tell you the truth: It is advantageous for you that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you: but if I go away, I will send him to you: and if he comes, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment, of sin.  because they do not believe in me, and of righteousness, because I am going to my Father, and you will see me no more."

Ascension Day reminds us every year that the above Words of Jesus have been fulfilled and that the risen Lord Jesus has ascended and sits at the right hand of our Heavenly Father from where He reigns.

We are also reminded of the command that Jesus gave at His Ascension as contained in LUKE 24:46-49 ESV 53 And He said to them, Thus it was written, and thus the Christ was to suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins be preached in His name to all the nations,  from Jerusalem and beyond. And you are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending upon you the promise of my Father. But you must remain in the city of Jerusalem until you are endowed with power from on high.

This above command is for everyone who heeds to wait in trust for the fulfillment of the promise of the power from above, to equip themselves to be witnesses. This word waiting is not passive, but hope with expectation grounded in trust that the promise of Jesus will be fulfilled.

Jesus' Ascension fulfilled His physical work on earth with the expectation that as the disciples waited and were filled with the promised power, they would preside over the work of preaching repentance and forgiveness of sins. This commission only confirms once again how our inheritance in Christ is intertwined with the promised land of Israel, that preaching repentance and forgiveness of sin in Jesus' name (character and authority) began from Jerusalem.

The word used for Jews returning to Israel is "Aliyah" which means to come up. Israel also means those who rule with God, as Israel became a country again in one day in 1948, as prophesied by the Word of God.

Isaiah 66:8–10

Who heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Is a country born in a single day? Or is a nation born in one fell swoop? For Zion found woes, at once bore her children. Would I bring close to birth and not give birth? says the LORD. Or would I who give birth late lock up myself? says your God. Rejoice with Jerusalem and rejoice over her, all who love her! Be merry with her, very merry, all who have been grieved over her!

Aliyah is a precursor and indication to us who are in Christ, that the time is approaching when we as children of our Heavenly Father will be taken up with Jesus in the clouds to reign with Him, as written in 2 Timothy 2:11-12 This is a faithful word; for if we have died with Him,  we too will live with him. If we endure, we will reign with Him.

Therefore, it is important to realize that the Ascension of Jesus, like His crucifixion and His resurrection, serves as a precursor for us. Our old life must die with Christ, so that we can rise with Him in THE NEW LIFE to be taken up with Him into Heaven and reign with Him.
